Hardwood Forest Foundation Los Angeles Hardwood Lumbermen's Club Donation Commercial Forest Products

On February 7, 2019, the Los Angeles Hardwood Lumbermen’s Club met at Danny K’s in Orange, California. They presented a $12,000 check to the Hardwood Forest Foundation from funds generated by the Alan Bohnhoff Memorial Golf Tournament in Fall of 2018. Well done!

About the HFF

Hardwood Forest Foundation, a 501-C3 organization, was founded in 1989 and has been involved in a variety of educational programs and activities throughout the United States and Canada, with the support of its parent organization, National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA).

Since its creation, NHLA has continued this support and hosted the Foundation’s office in the NHLA headquarters, located in Memphis.

The Foundation is led by a 17-member Board of Directors representing the forest products and education industries.

LAHLC Fall Tennis Mixer

The elite athletes of the Los Angeles Hardwood Lumberman’s Club converged on Anaheim Tennis Center for the club’s annual Fall tennis mixer on November 4, 2012. Despite the atypical 90 degree Fall weather, the 3 hour event was well attended. Tournament host, Chapman University Hall of Fame member and LAHLC President Dan Bohannon organized the mixer.

Pictures from the 2012 Alan Bohnhoff Memorial Golf Tournament

The Alan Bohnhoff Memorial Golf Tournament took place on October 4, 2012 at Costa Mesa Country Club in Costa Mesa, California. Golfers came from throughout North America and enjoyed a day of 80 degree weather and blue skies. Jim Gaither (Specialized Milling, Fontana, CA) served as the 2012 tournament director. Golfers on the winning team were: Darrell Covey, Todd Gleason, Dick Holper and Pat Lynch.

2012 marks the thirteenth year of the Los Angeles Hardwood Lumberman’s Club sponsored tournament. In 2009, the LAHLC renamed the tournament to honor former LAHLC president and beloved club member, Alan Bohnhoff.

The event raises funds to benefit the Hardwood Forest Foundation, a
non-profit organization dedicated to conservation, education and research.

LAHLC Holiday Party

 

On December 8, 2012 the Los Angeles Hardwood Lumberman’s Club held their annual holiday party in the Bordeaux Room at Mr. Stox restaurant in
Anaheim, California. The Caligula-esque menu featured slow roasted aged
Angus prime rib, mesquite grilled salmon and chicken, skewered filet of
beef with Jack Daniels, mini beef wellington, jumbo tiger shrimp, and
spicy vegetable spring rolls. An a capella trio serenaded the group with
Christmas carols throughout the evening.

Longtime LAHLC member and club historian, Walter Ralston (Cramer Lumber,Arcadia, CA) was presented with a Founders Award for his years of service to the club. Ralston also donated a piece of hand carved artwork for a raffle which was won by Steve Ondich (Commercial Forest Products, Fontana) The LAHLC member of the year award was presented to club president, Dan Bohannon (Bohannon Lumber, Long Beach, CA).

LAHLC Essay Contest Results

Winners of the Los Angeles Hardwood Lumberman’s Club essay contest, from left to right: Brendan Osborne (Ontario University), Kelsey Fitzgerald (Regis University), Kathryn Buechel (The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University), Kevin Porter (Orange Coast College). All of the students will receive a $500 scholarship to be applied for school expenses. The quality of the essays were outstanding in this competition.
